week of January 2008!     Kayla here! Welcome to my website. I write historical romances. ROGUE is my first novel, a Kensington Zebra Debut release, due out in January, 2008.

There’s something about the past that intrigues me. Every time I visit Williamsburg I envision what it must have looked like and how it must have felt to make a life here in this strange and wild land. How cool would it be to step back and see it first-hand, even just for a day? Actually, I doubt I could handle it any longer than that without my fix of mocha lattes and pilates. And then there’s the scary fact that pirates were very real and very deadly, definitely not to be messed with. But still, I can dream.

And dream I do. I guess that’s why I love to write historical romances. My heroes tend to be tortured, damaged men who’ve been hurt or betrayed. They start out believing they don’t want or deserve love. These alpha men live for what drives them – revenge, duty, honor – whatever distracts them from the deeper issues of the heart. Until they meet the woman they can’t resist. The confident or spunky woman who refuses to be broken down. The woman who shows them what could be -- and helps them realize they are indeed worthy of happiness. And of love.

The Caribbean and American Colonial period is close to my heart, but I love the medieval centuries as well. Who knows? Maybe we’ll travel even farther back in time together in a future book.
